Joanna

Joanna Bailey was born in Poland, and graduated from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. Since leaving Poland, Joanna has lived and worked as an artist in London. Her continued exploration of media and her technique of expression have resulted in significant representation and exhibitions in Europe and the USA and have attracted devoted collectors, both private and corporate.

“Continuous and stubborn attempts to catch those elusive moments when out of the chaos of matter, form unexpectedly emerges to transform it”.

Through the alchemy of mixed media (textile, paper, pigment, paint and found ephemera), manipulated by conscious and subconscious actions of application and erosion (scoring, rubbing, scratching and erasing) irreducible forms emerge.

Elemental in configuration, they inhabit a scarred topology, that records and witnesses every event in its exploration. They exist, naturally and with inevitability. These hieroglyphs, though playful, exhibit an enigmatic significance, and stark premonition of a more sombre state interlaced within the disordered state of unformed matter.
